Empowering Young Lives: Community Physiotherapy Sefton

In the vibrant community of Sefton, a dedicated team of physiotherapists and therapy assistants from Alder Hey Hospital is making a significant impact. The Community Physiotherapy Sefton team is committed to providing essential services for children from birth to 19 years of age across various settings, ensuring that every child receives the care they need to thrive.

Comprehensive Services Across Sefton

Birth to 5 years (Pre-School) Team: Specialized team addressing developmental delays and neurological difficulties. Appointments available in clinics, nurseries, schools, and the child's home.

Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy (SPOT) Team: Multidisciplinary service for children under three with concerns in two or more areas of development. Monthly drop-in sessions at designated locations.

Mainstream Physiotherapists: Assessment and treatment for school-age children with neurological difficulties, movement and coordination issues, and mobility challenges.

Special Schools Team: Collaborative work with special schools, providing therapeutic and educational experiences. Exercise programs, 24-hour positioning plans, and therapy equipment support.

Musculoskeletal Service: Specialist service addressing growth-related conditions, bone and soft tissue injuries, and muscle and joint concerns.

Respiratory Team: Highly specialized team managing respiratory symptoms in children with neuro disabilities. Long-term strategies for symptom management.

Referral Process:

Referrals are accepted from:

  • GPs
  • Health visitors
  • SEN link workers / SENCOs
  • Paediatricians and other health professionals

To initiate the referral process, a completed referral form and consent from a parent/carer are required. Referrals can be sent to seftoncommunity.physio-ot@nhs.net. All referrals undergo triage by specialist physiotherapists, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions.
